Traveling – just a temporary fashion?

Since the last two years traveling became a fad. An to make a living by just traveling as you like it.

I want to examine some of the aspects about that:

1. Traveling is not for everybody.
Sure, who don´t likes to sit in the sun at the ocean and having a tasty cocktail?

But is that already traveling? To book a two-weeks holiday in a foreign county? For me it hurts my traveler heart when I hear sentences like: “Me and my husband love to travel! We travel a lot! Every year we go to the same hotel in Antalya!” (Believe me, in Germany you hear those often.) That is not how I use the word ‘travel’.
So none of my friends have been starting to travel since it is ‘in’ when they haven`t been doing it before. Sure, they talk a bit more about it, but still it´s not for them.
But with a lot of younger people to travel changed. It´s about having fun, seeing things and meeting people. Well, this is closer to the meaning I give the word ‘travel’. But still, when I go to Laos to ride a scooter to a waterfall, drink a Beer Lao, go to the tubing in Vang Vieng, meet more Europeans in my age, run around drunk in the street and see a Buddha cave, am I traveling then? Yes, I have done all of these things in my time in Laos. But I have don some other things too, like: Meeting local people, smile to children waving me on the scooter, try all the food in the street, travel to a little village who was not in the ‘Lonely Planet’ cause there was nothing to see then people living the Laos way of life, enjoyed the untouched nature, had one adventure after the other cause nothing was planed or pre-booked, just took a deep breath and try to understand this poor and so rich county.

2. The world is changing.

For sure is that more people travel then 20 years ago. But that is simply: cause they can now! The world is growing together and not just people in the existing industrialized countries can afford to travel anymore.
Overall I think that is a good think, cause people getting to know other cultures and the way of living all over the planet. And best of all: they might realize we are all living in one world! Well, that would people realize who travel out of the same reasons while I do it. Sadly that is not always the case.

Anyway, if people can afford it to travel they should have the freedom to do it. I don´t like to have people everywhere I go and I love to make pictures of sights without people standing in front of it. But let´s be realistic, when something is just awesome a lot of people want to see it. When I go to see something of course other people want to see it too. So how can you be complaining about the stupid tourists in your way if you are one of them? Sure, I don´t consider myself as one of these tourists who look more through the camera, eat fast food and throw the paper as they go, pay money to hold an endangered animal for a selfie etc. but I´m a person who visits other countries in my holidays too. (which is the definition of a tourist)

3. Living the life everyone wants

If you go to Facebook these days you can´t avoid to see one of the ads like: “Getting rich be traveling the world and just do what you like”
First of all, as we established, not everyone like to travel. Second of all, some people can get rich by something but not all. Cause as the economy works you get rich by selling what everyone wants. But if everyone is selling the same no one wants to buy it. Easy, right?
So yes, some people made it to travel write about it and earn good money with that. But the market is quiet full now.
So why am I writing about travel stuff now? Well cause there is one truth in this whole thing: Do what you love. And I believe we are all best in what we love. So I love traveling, meeting new cultures and people smiling to little children in Laos. That is why. And that is why some people made it to live out of traveling but no one will make it who starts to travel cause it became a fashion.
